Dementia Programme
The West Glamorgan Dementia programme’s aim is to oversee the development of the new Regional Dementia Strategy and the implementation of the All-Wales Dementia Care Pathway of Standards.
The word ‘dementia’ describes a set of symptoms that over time can affect memory, problem-solving, language and behaviour that can get worse over time. Dementia can affect a person at any age but it’s more common in people over the age of 65.
There are over 200 subtypes of dementia with the most common being Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and mixed dementia. Young onset dementia is defined as dementia symptoms in people under the age of 65.
The West Glamorgan Regional Partnership is committed to improving the quality of life for people living with dementia and their carers, through more effective and targeted service provision. The region is in the process of co-producing a Regional Dementia Strategy and is currently working with colleagues to implement the All-Wales Dementia Pathway of Standards.
